| Loss of Boats and Lives at Sea497 18th August 1848 This morning 2 Portlethen fishermen, Jo. and Alexander Craig, brothers, were drowned off the Cove, being at the herring fishing at Stonehaven, during a tremendous hurricane - many boats and tackle lost - 1 belonging to Downies, all hands saved - many lost at Peterhead - lost on coast, 100 men and 160 boats. | ||||||||||||
